Set plays key ND upset of St. Patrick

NILES  ——  There are few rivalries in Illinois that rival the one between St. Patrick and Notre Dame. As the two largest all-boys Catholic high schools — and two of only three — on the North Side of the city or northern suburbs, the competition between the schools is keen. 

Add to that, the duo often competes for future students from the same feeder schools.

Fresh Fenwick finds win over St. Ignatius

RIVER FOREST – It’d been 10 days since Fenwick played someone not dressed in Friars gear.

After playing their first game on the year on March 13, Fenwick had its next game, a Chicago Catholic League Blue Division matchup with Mount Carmel, canceled due to COVID-19 complications within the Caravan program.

So, the team knew right away that its conference opener March 23rd against rival St. Ignatius would be a tougher game than normal. It’d have to shake off some rust and contend with pouring rain of the first half.

Cronnolly’s hat-trick propels Maine South past Maine East

PARK RIDGE – Maine South did something in the first week of the season against Maine East that it did only three times last season: score four or more goals in a single game.

Unlike the 2019 season when it took the Hawks to their 10th game to accomplish the feat, they were able to do it in their second game, when they took down their crosstown rivals 4-1 at home March 11.

New Trier has a storied girls soccer program that has won five state titles and a second place finish in the past 13 years. It also has two Gatorade Illinois Player of the Year award winners with KayAnne Gummersall winning in 2006 and Maddie Johnson winning in 2004.
