Payton takes city girls golf crown

A year after having Taft end its five year winning streak as Public League champions, Payton took back the title, as it defeated Taft 198-204 Sunday at Indian Boundary. The Grizzlies were able to edge out the Eagles by having all its players shoot 53 or lower. Continue reading

St. Francis loses heartbreaker to Trinity International

After a sluggish start and a furious late comeback, St. Francis was left with putting its defense to the test as Trinity International drove to potentially win the game. Unfortunately for the Saints, the Trojans drove all the way to the 11-yard line, setting up a 28-yard field goal that would give them a wild 41-39 victory Saturday in Deerfield. Continue reading

Harlan wins first sectional

A year after losing a heartbreaker to Simeon in the sectional final, Harlan was looking to make sure the same thing didn’t happen again. The Falcons prevailed, 7-5, over Jones to win the Class 3A St. Ignatius Sectional championship Saturday morning. The win marks the first sectional title in the program’s history. Continue reading

Payton creates school history

A year after becoming the first boys athletic team in school history to qualify for the state finals, the Payton volleyball team became the first in any sport, boys or girls, to qualify in consecutive years. The Grizzlies accomplished the feat by defeating St. Patrick 25-23, 25-23 for the second straight year at the Young sectional Tuesday. Continue reading
