Walk into New Trier on a Wednesday evening between December and February and you’re bound to hear basketballs bouncing, music blaring and basketball being played on every court in the school.
No we’re not talking about Scott Fricke or Teri Rodgers’ varsity teams. Or even any of the other school affiliated teams. Continue reading

The Guinness Book of World Records, now known as Guinness World Records, features more than 40,000 records, ranging from topics in sports to human interest to celebrities and food and drink.
Students in the sophomore class at New Trier High School found out on May 18 of last year that they’re the proud record holders of two records: Most Twins and Most Multiples in a Single Academic Year at One School. The sophomore class features 44 sets of twins and one set of triplets, accounting for 91 of the roughly 1,000 kids in the class. That number would make the twin birth rate of about one in every 10, compared to one in every 30, which is the national average. Continue reading

If Wilmette Junior High School was known for one thing, it had always been its chess team. The school’s program has won multiple state titles and was the only state-title winning program in the school’s history.
That changed during the weekend of March 9-10, 2018 at Northern Illinois University during the Boys State Wrestling Meet. Continue reading

Being a high school student, trying to figure out how to balance schoolwork, a social life and extracurricular activities, can be an extremely hard task in itself. Now imagine adding in helping found an app development company that is helping create three separate apps.
That’s exactly what New Trier seniors Galen Quinn and Mihir Kumar and junior Jacob Sussman went through when they started BitByBite Inc in December of 2016. Continue reading

It would have been easy for DePaul rising junior Bina Saipi to walk away from the sport she loves. After suffering a sprained ACL, two stress fractures in her femur and a torn labrum that required surgery, many people probably wouldn’t have blamed her if she did.
But not Saipi, a New Trier graduate. She wasn’t ready to give up the sport she loved so much, that she grew up playing and had a lot of success in. Continue reading

When one thinks about Illinois high school girls lacrosse, two schools come to mind: Loyola Academy and New Trier.
The Ramblers have won eight straight titles, including five over the Trevians, and only dropped one game to an Illinois team since 2010 (a 2014 loss to New Trier). In that same time frame, the Trevians have dropped 13 in-state games (including the state playoffs), 11 of which were to Loyola. Continue reading

Being a member of any team, whether athletic or business, teaches you how to communicate and, in some cases, how to be a leader. Sometimes when an athlete’s career is over, it is time to look for another path in life, to find another passion.
Tim Grovenburg, a 2006 New Trier graduate, knew that his football career wouldn’t go on forever. So while playing football at Bentley University in Massachusetts, he found his passion: helping small companies grow. Continue reading

New Trier graduate Matt Kaskey, a Dartmouth College offensive lineman, had his NFL dream come true April 29, 2019.
Kaskey, a Wilmette native, signed a free agent contract with the Los Angeles Rams, giving him a chance to attend minicamp and hopefully earn a spot on the Rams’ 53-man roster. Continue reading
Wilmette’s Johnny Wrenn, a graduate of New Trier High School, had never been out of the country before.
So imagine his reaction to traveling all the way to Abu Dhabi and Dubai to participate in the 2019 Special Olympics World Games last March.
“I wish it never ended,” Wrenn said. Continue reading
