When you have a pitcher like Lena Brottman, one big inning will be enough to propel you to a win.
That is exactly what happened Saturday as No. 3 Fremd put up seven runs in the bottom of the first inning on the way to an 8-3 win over Lake Zurich in the Class 4A Buffalo Grove Sectional final.

Earlier this season, Lake Zurich pitcher Megan Mattera told her first-year coach Michaela Towne that she wanted to break the school’s single-season record of 12 home runs. Well Mattera did that and much more as she led the Bears (24-11) to a 1-0 extra-inning win over Barrington on Thursday.
