New Trier students create app development company

Being a high school student, trying to figure out how to balance schoolwork, a social life and extracurricular activities, can be an extremely hard task in itself. Now imagine adding in helping found an app development company that is helping create three separate apps.

Saipi hopes to see dream come true

It would have been easy for DePaul rising junior Bina Saipi to walk away from the sport she loves. After suffering a sprained ACL, two stress fractures in her femur and a torn labrum that required surgery, many people probably wouldn’t have blamed her if she did.

But not Saipi, a New Trier graduate. She wasn’t ready to give up the sport she loved so much, that she grew up playing and had a lot of success in. Continue reading

Segal joins elite company in NSCD basketball history

Caroline Segal has been playing basketball for as long as she can remember. 

After growing up having played in the Glencoe Park District, the New Trier Feeder Program and the All-In Athletics travel basketball program, the Glencoe resident headed to play at North Shore Country Day School for her four years of high school basketball.

While her senior year isn’t over yet, Segal will leave the school as one of the best players to ever play in the Raiders’ girls basketball program, especially after becoming only the second player in program history to score 1,000 points Dec. 17, 2019, in a 38-12 win over Parker in Winnetka. Mickeeya (Murray) Harrison, North Shore Class of 2002 is the only other girls basketball player to accomplish the feat. Continue reading

After completing what could be considered the best career in Illinois high school girls lacrosse, many thought Brennan Dwyer would have instant success at Northwestern University.

Loyola grad Conor Dwyer returns for Rio Olympics

Making one Olympics is an incredible accomplishment. Making two? That’s even harder than making the first.

“It’s an incredible feeling because I mean the first time was a dream come true and an unbelievable experience and I felt like I wanted to accomplish more and perform better than I did in London,” Conor Dwyer said. “I’m ecstatic that all the dedication and hard work paid off and I could make my second Olympics.” Continue reading

Loyola’s Kalayjian plays in 2017 Pan-Homenetmen Games

 

Being able to play a sport overseas is exciting to anyone. Now imagine being a rising high school senior that’s going to represent your home country in the country of your family’s ancestry, a place you’ve never visited.

That’s exactly what’s happening with Loyola Academy’s Vahe Kalayjian July 21-27. The Ramblers shooting guard will be traveling to Armenia to play in the Pan-Homenetmen Games, representing one of three teams from the United States. Kalayjian will be on the Eastern USA squad that will play in the Junior Men’s Basketball competition. Continue reading

CHA’s Dunne’s long road leads to Minnesota

Christian Heritage Academy’s Academy senior Josey Dunne’s had hockey in her blood since she was a young child. With three older siblings gone on to play NCAA Division I college hockey, the dream of playing at the next level has been at the top of mind for Dunne, who is one of six hockey-playing kids and hails from O’Fallon, Missouri.

“I started on the ice as a figure skater, but then I went to one of my brothers hockey games and thought that ‘they get to hit, they get to shoot? That’s a lot more fun than picking up teddy bears,’” she said. “When I saw my older sister play at Ohio State I thought ‘wow she can do that.’ And I think we have a competitive family so that pushed me to a mindset that that’s what I want to do and what I can do.” Continue reading

Kaskey signs with Los Angeles Rams after draft

 

New Trier graduate Matt Kaskey, a Dartmouth College offensive lineman, had his NFL dream come true April 29, 2019.

Kaskey, a Wilmette native, signed a free agent contract with the Los Angeles Rams, giving him a chance to attend minicamp and hopefully earn a spot on the Rams’ 53-man roster. Continue reading
