Once again Young used the arm of Madisen Lenzini and the hands of setter Jenna Jacobson as it continued on its quest for the city championship, this time downing Taft 25-15, 25-18 Tuesday afternoon at Northside.

After spotting Taft a 4-0 lead to start the first set, Young was able to go on a 7-3 run before running away with the set, not letting the Eagles (12-10) get any closer than three. Hanna Lee had two kills in the run.

“We know this is only one step on the way to city, but we still have a couple days before we play for what we really want,’’ said Jacobson, referring to a city championship.

The second set was also close, but Taft was able to hang around longer, until the serving arm of Jacobson put the set and match away. After a Lenzini kill, Jacobson went to the service line up 20-18 and served out the rest of the match. Lenzini had three of her match-high 12 kills in the closing 5-0 run.

“We relaxed a little bit in the second set, but we knew what we had to do to win and made it right. We didn’t want to make any stupid mistakes and do stuff we normally wouldn’t do,’’ said Jacobson.

Danielle Schroeder added nine kills for the Dolphins (25-2), while Lee had five and Jacobson finished with 21 assists.

Taft was led by Melina Villaber with four kills and Lety Rosalez with three.

Von Steuben d. Lane 20-25, 25-17, 25-20: Jocelyn Parks had nine kills for the Panthers as they defeated Lane in the second quarterfinal Tuesday afternoon at Northside.
