Grenadiers comeback to win in Overtime

Quarterback Dejan Basara knew that he could rely on his teammates to help the team rally from an 18-7 fourth quarter defecit. But it was Basara who did it all Friday night in the Grenadiers 24-18 overtime victory.
“This is the closest team I’ve ever been a part of,’’ Basara said. “We knew we had no quit in us and that we could come back.’’
After getting the ball first in overtime, Basara rushed three times for 10 yards and scored on a quarterback keeper from two yards out.
“We call it a power play,’’ Basara said. “Our blocking was really good all night and I give credit to my entire line. We knew the weather wouldn’t be great but we couldn’t worry about the rain and fog.’’
Basara, who was 15-for-25 for 201 yards and a touchdown, converted a two-point attempt after a Stefan Skoneczka 25-yard touchdown run and a 32-yard field goal with 28 seconds left to send the game into overtime.
Fremd (1-2) opened the second half scoring on two of their first three possessions. The Vikings had more first downs on their first drive of the second half (four) than they did in the entire first half (two). That scoring drive resulted in a one-yard run by quarterback Sam Beulter.
AJ McGhee led the Vikings with 114 yards on 23 carries, while Nick Storm added 74, including a 56-yard touchdown run in the second half. Kicker Andrew Stark hit a 44-yard field goal, but also missed 51-yard field goal that would have won the game in regulation.
Skoneczka led Elk Grove (2-1) with 76 yards on nine carries and a 9-yard touchdown reception.
