It was a familiar scenario in the boys lacrosse state title match on Saturday, as New Trier and Loyola met in the final for the fifth straight season.

The Trevians won the final title before the sport gains full IHSA recognition next spring, beating their North Shore rivals 7-6 at Oak Park on Chris Sweitzer’s goal with 1:02 left in the game.

“I knew it was coming to me,’’ Sweitzer said. “I was fortunate that it went in. I only had one shot and needed to make it happen. It’s the biggest goal of my life.’’

New Trier (20-3) got off to a quick start in its quest for a sixth consecutive Illinois High School Lacrosse Association title, scoring three goals in the first seven minutes.

Loyola (19-7) was able to cut the deficit to 3-1 by the end of the first quarter and used that momentum to score three of the four second-quarter goals, sending the game into halftime deadlocked at 4.

The Trevians got off to a quick start in the third quarter, scoring two goals 18 seconds apart in the first 1:40. The Ramblers cut New Trier’s lead to one going into the fourth quarter on a goal by Will Forsyth and tied it halfway through the period.

Robby Marren led the Trevians with two goals. Harry Clarke had two goals for Loyola.
