Fremd clinches conference crown
Fremd clinched its first Mid-Suburban League West title in more than a decade with a dominating 55-33 victory Friday against rival Conant in Hoffman Estates.
Chris Klimek scored 17 of his 23 points in the first half for the No. 19 Vikings (19-1, 8-0). He scored 11 points in the second quarter, when Fremd extended a 12-9 lead at the end of the first quarter into a 31-16 halftime lead.
‘‘I give all the credit to my teammates,’’ Klimek said. ‘‘They were getting me the ball, and I ended up making the shots. I was just feeling it today.’’
The Vikings forced the Cougars (12-8, 4-4) into 14 turnovers.
‘‘The key was how we played defensively,’’ Fremd coach Bob Widlowski said. ‘‘I feel good for my seniors. They worked hard and deserve this. This is quite an accomplishment for us.’’
Quinn Williams added 13 points and Zach Monaghan 10 for the Vikings.
Andrew Spangler and Christian Santos led Conant with six points each.
The victory enabled Fremd to clinch its first division title since 1998.
