After falling behind early, Fremd showed why it’s the top-ranked team in the area by rallying past Buffalo Grove 3-1 in a Mid-Suburban League crossover Monday.

The visiting Bison (8-2) got on the board in the top of the first as Andrea DiPrima hit a two-out home run off Vikings ace Leah Brottman.

“She’s a great hitter and you have to give credit to her,’’ Brottman said of DiPrima’s home run. “You get the ball back from the umpire and you just have to put it in the back of your mind and move on.’’

Fremd (7-0), which came into the day averaging nine runs per game, threatened in the bottom of the first inning. But Lauren Zaworski was thrown out at the plate trying to score from second on a Kelly Voigt single.

The Vikings got on the board in the bottom of the fourth when Alexa Cinquegrani’s double to left-center scored Jenny Schneider, who led off the inning with a single.

Brottman (7-0) shut down the Bison after DiPrima’s home run, not allowing a runner past second base until the sixth inning. Singles by DiPrima, Emily Begnel and Sara Penelle loaded the bases with one out, but Brottman was able to get out of the inning with a flyout and a popout.

The Vikings used three Buffalo Grove errors in the bottom of the fifth to break the tie. Megan Hubbard led off and reached on an error. She came around to score when Buffalo Grove pitcher Maria Dax (5-2) overthrew first base on a ball hit by Kristine Werling, who advanced to third on the throw. Werling scored on another error.

Brottman went the distance, allowing seven hits and striking out five.

DiPrima and Dunne were both 2-for-3 for Buffalo Grove. Schneider led Fremd with three hits.
