Montini rolls by Immaculate Conception

For most teams, simply playing your rival would be enough to motivate you, but Friday night, Montini had a little more motivation. They would have to play the last two and a half quarters without their coach, who was ejected in the team’s 63-31 Suburban Christian Blue win over Immaculate Conception.

With the Broncos (18-1, 5-0) up 34-16 midway through the second quarter, coach Jason Nichols was given his second technical in four minutes and ejected from the game. Nichols drew his first tech for arguing calls that were going against the Broncos and then was ejected after continuing to get in the ref’s ear during the timeout.

‘‘I’ve never seen that happen to Coach before,’’ junior Whitney Holloway said. ‘‘It just meant we needed to keep our composure withouth Coach, and we did that.’’

The No. 3 Broncos used a 15-3 run to end the first quarter with a 21-7 lead and put the game away early. With their suffocating pressure, Montini was able to get the Knights to turn the ball over early and often. Holloway (12 points) led the defense with eight steals.

Michala Johnson led the way for the Broncos, who also defeated the Knights (18-2, 4-2) earlier this season, with 21 points and eight rebounds. Taylor Reaber led No. 25 Immaculate Conception with 14 points.
